Associated Builders and Contractors honors Calvert-Jones with 14th Annual Paragon Award

At an awards recognition dinner during the group's monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 8, 2007, Associated Builders and contractors' (ABC), Virginia Chapter Vice President Angela Lynd presented Calvert-Jones President Stan Peregoy with the prestigious Paragon Award. Established by the ABC Safety Committee to reward members for excellence in the field of safety, the award recognizes those members who have a proven commitment to safety.

Numerous contractors within various categories apply for this award. The safety programs of each applicant are evaluated, and the honor is given to the contractor that meets and exceeds all safety expectations outlines in the award criteria and posts the fewest injuries during the award timeframe. Some of the statistics they considered were the Recordable Incident Rate, which was 3.8: and the "Days Away from work, with Restrictions or Transfers," known as the DART Rate, which was 2.2. Both results are for year-end 2006, and both are more than 50 percent better than the industry average for mechanical contractors. The total number of hours spent in safety training and the comprehensive safety and health programs at Calvert-Jones were also taken into consideration for the award nomination.

"This annual contest is highly competitive, and capturing the award is a significant achievement," explained Lynd. "Calvert-Jones should be especially proud of this accomplishment, as Paragon winners are clearly the best in their respective category," she explains.

Stan Peregoy attributes the heightened awareness of safe business practices across all job categories as the primary reason Calvert-Jones won the award.

"Our employees work safely," he explained. "They know what to do and what not to do on a job site. They're efficient, professional and technically astute. This award belongs to everyone at Calvert-Jones, because each and every employee makes the company a safe place at which to work," he said, proudly.
